Manufacturer’s Claim
Rogaine advertises its Men’s Rogaine Unscented Foam as a treatment for hair loss that revitalizes the hair follicles so they grow where they didn’t before. Male pattern baldness is common in millions of men after a certain age (and sometimes even before) and Men’s Rogaine claims that it produces results: hair growth. Using minoxidil, Rogaine states it can regenerate hair. In this review of Men’s Rogaine Unscented Foam, we present the facts so you can determine if you will have a thick head of hair to look forward to.
Formula
Rogaine has only one active ingredient: Minoxidil 5%. Although it is used to help hair growth, research shows that it cannot be used to help with baldness in the front of the scalp or with a receding hairline. It is also not used for patchy hair loss.
Inactive ingredients:
- Butane
- Butylated Hydroxytoluene
- Cetyl Alcohol
- Citric Acid
- Glycerin
- Isobutene
- Lactic acid
- Polysorbate 60
- Propane
- Purified water
- SD alcohol
- 40-B
- Stearyl alcohol
Biotin is often found in hair loss products but is not found in Rogaine’s formula. Other key ingredients such as Saw Palmetto, Borage Oil, Vitamins A and B are also not on the list.
Instructions
Men using Rogaine are asked to apply the foam two times a day, every day. It is noted that hair loss may increase over the course of the first few weeks but that is normal and that results will be seen from two months onwards.
Moreover, as this product is only for men, there are many recommendations to not use if you are a woman, your amount of hair loss is different than what is shown on the box, you have no family history of hair loss, your hair loss is sudden, you are under 18, your scalp is red or irritated and/or you are using other medicines on the scalp. As always, it is best to check with a healthcare professional before use.
Cost
Rogaine offers multiple packages on its own website: a one-month supply at $29.99, a three-month supply at $49.99, a four-month supply at $59.99, a six-month supply at $84.99, or a twelve-month supply at $159.99. However, all of these appear to auto-refill plans in which you are billed and then receive refills when the supply you originally purchased is about to run out.
Note that Amazon sells a one-month supply for $18.69 (as a one-time purchase).
Possible Side Effects
The first side effect may actually be hair loss in the first few weeks of use to “make way for new hair growth” as per the Rogaine website. Minoxidil does occasionally have side effects such as burning or stinging.
Guarantee
Although the website suggests that refunds are easy, returns are only accepted for unopened products within 30 days of purchase and this includes six or twelve-month supplies. This is a bit unusual as facts on the website suggest that it takes about 2 months before it can start working. So, while you can return the product, it basically means Rogaine does not allow you to test its effectiveness risk-free.
Men’s Rogaine Unscented Foam Review – The Bottom Line
While Rogaine is a well-known name, promoting hair growth solutions, and Amazon customer reviews indicate they are generally satisfied with the product, based on what we have researched, its list of ingredients is missing some key components that are often present when addressing hair loss. Moreover, their refund policy does not leave room for “satisfaction guaranteed” which gives us the thought that they are not standing by their product. We would advise searching for products with a better guarantee so as not to waste your money.
